As this year comes to a close, we at Writer's Bloc want to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve shared and express our deepest gratitude to everyone who has been part of it—our poets, musicians, audience, and our amazing team.

To Our Poets and Musicians

This year, every single poet who stepped onto our stage brought words that moved us. Whether sharing pieces of love, loss, joy, or resilience, you’ve all created unforgettable moments. We also want to give a special mention to the musicians who joined us, adding an extra layer of meaning and magic to our nights. Together, you made each evening a celebration of expression and art.

The Heart of Our Community

For me, the true magic lies in the sense of community we’ve built. We come together as strangers, let our guards down, and share our vulnerabilities—raw, open, and honest. And in return, we are met with support, compassion, and warmth. It’s not always easy to share our stories, but the space we create together makes it possible.

There is something profoundly beautiful about seeing people hold space for each other, cheering, listening, and celebrating every voice that rises. It’s a reminder that art heals, and community uplifts.

To First-Timers and Future Poets

If you’ve performed for the first time or are considering stepping onto the stage next year, know this: it is liberating. Sharing your truth—whether through poetry, music, or storytelling—is like setting yourself free. The stage doesn’t just hold performances; it holds emotions, memories, and the weight we choose to let go of. We’ve had poets tell us how transformative these nights can be, how it helps them heal, and how it feels to release something they’ve carried for too long.

If you’re nervous about performing, I want you to remember: this is a room full of people who are ready to hold space for you. Your words matter, your voice matters, and we are here to celebrate you.

To those who attended, cheered, and listened—thank you. Your presence is what fuels this community and makes it special. And to our venue partner, Coca Lounge in Melville, thank you for opening your doors and providing a space where creativity can thrive.

• Nthabiseng: Our incredible former MC, whose powerful energy made every poet feel comfortable and ready to shine. Your presence on stage created a safe and vibrant space. As you head off to Europe for your travels and studies, we wish you nothing but the best and can’t wait to hear about your journey.
• Emmanuel: A familiar face and voice, Emmanuel—one of our cherished poets—has taken up the role of MC once again. Your ability to connect with the crowd, keep the energy light-hearted, and make everyone feel cozy has been such a gift. Thank you for stepping up and bringing your unique magic to the role.
