In an exclusive interview, we delved into the mind of this award-winning artist, exploring his unique creative process and the driving force behind his work. Here’s a glimpse into our conversation:

The Meaning of Metamorphosis

To begin, we asked him to define metamorphosis on his own terms and explain how this core idea shapes his work.

"To me, metamorphosis is evolution, transformation, alchemy, truth, activation of dormant genes, a higher state of consciousness, and alignment... I spelled my name differently because, for me, my transformation began with an inner awakening. Where the spiritual, philosophical, and scientific collide. I realized the old beliefs I clung to about the world were half truths... My name is more of a coded mantra for approaching your transformation fearlessly. Me(e)t A ‘Morphosis.’"

From Hip-Hop to Poetic Mastery

Given his diverse influences, we were curious about the creative journey that led to his latest project, and how he maintained a cohesive message across a wide range of sounds.

"I focused on living a life worth writing about... I always felt Hip-Hop just felt so cool. Over time, in the 12th grade, I started rapping, but I internally felt at the time that I may have higher competency in poetry. Since [my] 1st year of university, I pursued mastery of poetry, putting a pause on some of the strong Hip-Hop influences that shaped me. My love for Hip-Hop never died, and even though I've recorded most of my next album with my band The Corridors of Mirrors, I have decided to release a different album that started as an idea for a mixtape... that feels like an album that covers all the elements of why I fell in love with Hip Hop as a child."

Balancing Science, Philosophy, and Emotion

Met_A_Morphosis's work often weaves together complex themes from philosophy and science. We asked him where this inspiration comes from and how he balances it with emotional delivery.

"I am blessed by the divine and my ancestors to be a polymath. A world-class artist, writer, scientist, educator, philosophy lecturer, public speaking, and chess head coach... I have an incredibly deep passion for art, science, and philosophy. Those are 3 of my favorite things. During the COVID-19 2020 hard lockdown, I underwent a shadow integration process (Jungian Psychology) to better understand the dynamic of the self and expand into the Übermensch... I always compare myself with the refined version of my future self. Clarity of thought breeds greater manifestations."

The Unspoken Language of Art

His visual art and sketches seem to carry their own narrative. We asked how he sees his visual work connecting to his poetry and music.

"My work is often based on visual concept maps. I have a very particular way of fusing imagery and concepts... Images that trigger meaning and purpose often compel me to write. That's where most of my art comes from."

A Moment on Stage

Having performed at prestigious venues like the State Theatre and Joburg Theatre, Met_A_Morphosis reflected on his most memorable performance.

"Definitely when I headlined the Jhb Theatre in 2019. It was the 1st time I had an hour-long set... Oddly, the moment also coincided with the first time I had family, friends, mentors, lecturers, aunts, uncles, poetry veterans, and future legends in the audience... It was an affirmation that childhood dreams can become reality. Headlining at such a prestigious theatre is something I was dreaming of until it manifested almost 7 years later."

The Next Phase of Evolution

With so many disciplines under his belt, we asked what the next metamorphosis he's working toward is and if there are any new projects on the horizon.

"There are new things I'm exploring. Painting is one of them... I do have my next 2 albums recorded. One of them will probably be my 3rd album which has strong jazz influences I rapped over with my band live in studio recording. The next one is my 2nd album called Quantum Soul Volume 1. You're the first publication to know the title. I'll likely be dropping it for a 4th quarter release in 2025."
