Starting 2026 Strong: A Powerful Poetry Night at AJ’s
Published on: 2 February 2026
Writer’s Bloc kicked off 2026 in unforgettable style with our first poetry night of the year at our new venue, AJ’s in Weltevreden. The evening was a celebration of voice, vulnerability, and connection, a powerful reminder of why poetry continues to matter.
From the very first performance, it was clear that the night was something special. Poets stepped onto the stage and poured their souls into their work, sharing stories of love, loss, growth, anger, and healing. Each piece carried its own weight, and the honesty in the room was palpable.
The audience played an equally important role in shaping the experience. The crowd was fully engaged — responding to lines that resonated, holding space during moments of vulnerability, and offering warmth and encouragement throughout the night. It felt less like a show and more like a shared moment between strangers brought together by words.
AJ’s proved to be the perfect setting for this new chapter. The intimate atmosphere, welcoming staff, and vibrant energy of the space allowed both performers and listeners to feel comfortable and present. The vibes were incredible from start to finish — the kind of night that reminds you you’re exactly where you’re meant to be.
We’d like to extend our deepest thanks to every poet who took the stage and every person who showed up to support local art. Your energy, bravery, and presence are what make Writer’s Bloc what it is. Starting the year with a night like this sets the tone for an exciting and meaningful 2026.
